YEREVAN (Armenpress) — The Embassy of the United States of America in Armenia held a festive event dedicated to the US Independence Day in Kapan for the first time, on July 12.

According to the reference to the embassy’s message, Ambassador Kristina Kvien, welcoming the guests of the event and said:

“The people of Armenia deserve to live in peace and prosperity. This special celebration is an excellent opportunity to strengthen our shared democratic values and close ties between our peoples.”

Ambassador Kvien with Syunik Governor Robert Ghukasyan discussed possible ways to deepen Armenian-American cooperation and reaffirmed the United States’ support for Armenia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and well-being. The Ambassador, with the EUMA, got acquainted with the situation at the border.

Ambassador Kvien met with the Minister of Internal Affairs Vahe Ghazaryan and the Patrol Police Service, and participated in a donation of medical kit supplies Ambassador Kvien also met with forcibly displaced people from Nagorno-Karabakh in Kapan to hear about their current needs and learn about the assistance provided by the Government of Armenia and USAID in their new places of residence.

Kvien also signed a new Memorandum of Understanding with Liana Gasparyan, director of Syunik Regional Library, regarding the continuous cooperation with “American Corner” of Kapan.

The ambassador also spoke with participants of the ACCESS English language courses, funded by the US Embassy.

The program in Kapan, Goris and Meghri is implemented by the Educational Initiatives NGO.
