Providence Churches Collaborate for Annual Commemoration

forget-me-not-285x300PROVIDENCE, R.I. — On Sunday, April 24, the Armenian Martyrs’ Memorial Committee of Rhode Island will commemorate the 101sth Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. A special service commemorating the Holy Martyrs will be held at North Burial Ground, Providence starting at 12:45pm. The clergy from the three local Armenian Churches along with the deacons and choirs will be participating.

Federal and state officials have been invited. Dr. Barbara J. Merguerian of Wellesley, Mass., will be the speaker. She is a historian, writer and editor as well as a co-founder of the Armenian International Women’s Association, a past president, and director of its Armenian Women’s Archives. A native of Providence, and a graduate of Cranston High School and Brown University, she earned her Master’s Degree and Doctorate in Modern European History from Harvard University. The public is cordially invited at attend this important commemoration.

On Tuesday morning, April 19 starting at 8:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., the 18th Annual Armenian Youth Day will be held at Sts. Sahag and Mesrob Church, Egavian Auditorium, Providence. All youths between the ages of 7 and 14 are invited to attend a full day of activities and lunch. There is no charge for this event. For further information, email joycey41@cox.net.
