Mexico to Return Aliyev Statue to Azerbaijan


MEXICO CITY (Armenpress) —The statue of the late Azerbaijani President Heydar Aliyev, which was dismantled in January upon the request of the local residents, will be transferred to Azerbaijani Embassy, said the head of Miguel Hidalgo region Victor Hugo Romo.

Monument of Aliyev was installed in one of the central Mexico City parks, after Azerbaijan had spent a big sum of money on the reconstruction of 2 Mexican parks. Installation of the monument was followed by number of protest actions by the resident, as the statue of a dictator was not far from the statues of national heroes. In a result special committee advised to dismantle the statue of Aliyev, noting that authorities made a mistake by accepting the money and letting a foreign country to install a statue in the center of the capital.
