YEREVAN — The 3rd Dr. Aram Chobanian Conference on Postgraduate Medical Education and Continuing Professional Development virtually brought together 187 participants for an international exchange of ideas on the future of medical education on October 10. Awarded five Armenian continuing medical education (CME) credits, the conference explored innovative approaches to teaching and learning, with particular emphasis on artificial intelligence (AI), immersive technologies, and the evolving needs of healthcare professionals.

Organized by the International Center for Professional Development (ICPD), with support from the Fund for Armenian Relief (FAR), the conference continued the legacy of Dr. Aram Chobanian, whose contributions to medical education, research, academic leadership, and mentorship have had a lasting impact on the medical community.

The conference opened with remarks by Dr. Richard Babayan, who reflected on Dr. Chobanian’s enduring legacy as an educator, researcher, mentor, and friend.

The keynote address was delivered by Dr. David L. Battinelli, Dean of the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell and Physician-in-Chief of Northwell Health. His presentation examined the transformation of medical curricula and the importance of preparing future physicians to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing healthcare environment. The keynote set the stage for broader discussions on how educational institutions can adapt to technological advances while maintaining a strong focus on clinical competence and the human dimensions of medicine.

The scientific program featured presentations by an international group of experts: Edouard Aboian, David B. Pearlstone, Guzel Ulumbekova, Levonti Ohanisian, Abdelrahman Adly, Jaideep Talwalkar, Ximena Alvira, Ben Muller, and Lynn Kysh. Their contributions addressed emerging trends and practical strategies for strengthening postgraduate medical education and continuing professional development.

The sessions were moderated by Dr. Gevorg Yaghjyan, Dr. Mikael Petrosyan, and Professor Ara Tekian, whose guidance facilitated active discussions and lively question-and-answer sessions. The exchanges encouraged participants to connect emerging educational concepts with the practical challenges and professional needs of healthcare systems.

Expanding Access to Evidence-Based Medical Information

One of the conference’s key practical outcomes was the announcement that Elsevier’s ClinicalKey and ClinicalKey AI resources will be available through the Medical Library of Armenia’s National Institute of Health. This initiative is expected to expand healthcare professionals’ access to trusted medical literature, clinical reference materials, and AI-supported tools for retrieving and navigating evidence-based clinical information.

Healthcare professionals and medical institutions are encouraged to contact the NIH Medical Library for information about individual and institutional access, subscription arrangements, and activation procedures.

The conference reaffirmed the importance of continuous innovation in medical education and the value of international collaboration in strengthening professional development. By bringing together educators, clinicians, and medical education specialists, the event contributed to an ongoing dialogue on how technology, evidence-based approaches, and innovative teaching strategies can help prepare the next generation of healthcare professionals.

ICPD extends its sincere gratitude to all speakers, moderators, participants, and partners, particularly the Fund for Armenian Relief, for their contributions to the success of the conference and their shared commitment to advancing medical education in Armenia and beyond.

Through this annual conference, ICPD continues to honor Dr. Aram Chobanian’s commitment to academic excellence, lifelong learning, and the advancement of medical education.

The International Center for Professional Development is dedicated to advancing postgraduate medical education and continuing professional development through educational conferences, scientific meetings, seminars, and innovative learning opportunities. By fostering international collaboration and knowledge exchange, ICPD supports healthcare professionals in strengthening their knowledge, skills, and clinical practice.
