Rouben Mirzakhanian Appointed Rector of Pedagogical University

YEREVAN — On Saturday, September 25, Minister of Education Armen Ashodian introduced to the Faculty of Yerevan’s Khachadour Abovian Pedagogical University their new rector, Dr. Roupen Mirzakhanian.

Mirzakhanian has been the head of the Cultural Department of the university for the past 20 years. He has a doctorate in education and has written three books about Armenian culture, and has written many articles on the topic.

Mirzakhanian is the president of the Tekeyan Cultural Association of Armenia and is a member of Azg newspaper’s board of directors. He was one of the founders of the ADL in Armenia in 1991, and served as the party’s chairman from 1991 to 1996, as well as a second term from 1999 to 2003.

In 2003 he received the Movses Khorenatsi medal from Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II.

The Khachadour Abovian Pedagogical University has 16,000 students and 1,500 faculty and staff. In addition to training all teachers in Armenia, the university hosts many diasporan teachers when they study in Armenia.
