yeghvartYEGHVART, Armenia — Yeghvart is one of the oldest settlements in Armenia with a population of 12,000 and it is home to three medieval churches. Since 1994 a local chapter of the Armenian Democratic Liberal Party (ADL) has functioned here, with a private center, donated by Sarkis Khachadourian of Athens, Greece, in memory of his brother, Krikor Khachadourian. During the past 10 years the center was not functioning properly for lack of appropriate facilities.

The ADL Armenia recently renovated the center for use by members and young persons in the town of Yeghvart, with the help of ADL Reform Committee of Diaspora.

On the afternoon of Saturday, September 25, board members of the organization and youngsters gathered to open the center officially, with the participation of ADL Armenia Chairman Hagop Avedikian, Vice Chairman Karen Kakoyan, Chairman of ADL Yeghvart Chapter Hratch Garabedian, ADL Candidates for the coming October 2 elections for Town Council Raffik Ohanian and Haig Mkrdchian and Kevork Marashlian, member of the Tekeyan Cultural Association of the US and Canada.

After observing the results of the renovations, Avedikian welcomed those present, especially the youth, and thanked the chairman for his efforts and wished continued success to the two Town Council candidates during the upcoming elections.

The center will be equipped with computers for the use of the membership.
