Lusine Arakelyan

YEREVAN — On September 24, the Komitas Chamber Music House in Yerevan hosted a concert by the “Tagharan” Early Music Ensemble, entitled, “From German Baroque to Spanish Sounds.” The ensemble performed under the direction of its artistic director and conductor, Sedrak Yerkanyan, Honored Artist of the Republic of Armenia. Soloists were soprano Lusine Arakelyan and pianist Anahit Dilbaryan.

Beginning with works from the German Baroque repertoire, including compositions by Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel, the artists moved in time and space to Spain and Latin American music, with works by Isaac Albéniz, Sandoval, Guastavino and Torroba.

Arakelyan is a laureate of international competitions and guest soloist of various European concert companies and orchestras. She recently returned from a major project organized by the “Grandi Voci” Program in Vienna, where she performed pieces from Mozart operas, as well as the famous aria from Dvořák’s “Rusalka.” She performed under the direction of Gregory Buchalter, a conductor associated with the Metropolitan Opera.

Her concert performance displayed her powerful lyric-dramatic soprano voice and strong portrayal of character — both qualities that made clear her vocation for the opera stage.

Dilbaryan, recipient of the President of the Republic of Armenia’s Award and laureate of international competitions, is an outstanding musician who performs regularly in Armenia and abroad. A pianist with a high level of professionalism and musical interpretation, she is a soloist with the Assonance Ensemble, a guest pianist of various concert companies, and works with the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra.

Both musicians are dedicated teachers whose music students have distinguished themselves in international competitions.
