Watertown, MA (10/26/2024) .- The Armenian Cultural and Educational Center (ACEC) will be unveiling the statue of renowned Armenian musician, teacher and choirmaster Komitas Vartabed on Saturday, November 9th, at 1pm.
This year marks the 155th birth anniversary of Komitas, who was an Armenian priest, composer, choirmaster, singer, music ethnologist, music teacher and musicologist, known as the founder of modern Armenian classical music and the Armenian national school of music. Komitas spent his life gathering folk songs in the Armenian Highlands and was named the father of Armenian Folk Music. Persecuted in 1915, Komitas survived the Armenian Genocide physically, but was driven into emotional trauma by it. Thousands of our Armenian folk songs survived the Armenian Genocide thanks to Komitas.
The event is free and open to the public. Donations accepted.
Location: ACEC, 47 Nichols Avenue, Watertown, MA
