ARLINGTON, Mass. — KAMURJNER Cultural Connections, Inc., hosted a recital featuring rising Armenian-American soprano Lucia Papikian, joined by pianist Michele Wong, on August 9 at the Armenian Cultural Foundation.
The concert, titled “Beyond Reach,” marked Papikian’s solo recital debut in her home state of Massachusetts, drawing more than 140 people and filling the hall to capacity. From the opening selections through the final notes, the audience remained fully engaged.
“Supporting and celebrating talented young musicians is at the heart of KAMURJNER’s mission,” said Izabella Djevalikian, founding director of the organization. “It was wonderful to see a full hall and such a warm response to Lucia and Michele. It was especially rewarding to see our community come together to encourage a remarkable young artist at the beginning of what promises to be an exciting musical career.”
Papikian presented a thoughtfully selected program that reflected the expressive range and emotional depth of the classical vocal repertoire. Spanning languages, styles and musical traditions, the evening featured works by Sibelius, Liszt, Rimsky-Korsakov, Tchaikovsky, Tigranian, Abrahamian, Puccini, Schumann, Chopin and Scarlatti. From the intimacy and tenderness of Anoush’s aria by Tigranian to the dramatic intensity of Puccini’s Vissi d’arte from Tosca, the varied repertoire highlighted the young soprano’s vocal beauty and dramatic expression.
The Armenian selections held particular significance for Papikian.
Papikian is completing her Bachelor of Music degree at the Juilliard School, where she studies with Prof. Darrell Babidge. She has performed at numerous cultural and commemorative events, as well as at Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall. Her growing list of honors includes awards at the American Protégé International Voice Competition, American Fine Arts Festival and Classical Singer Competition, as well as First Prize at the 2025 Voice of the World International Competition in Yerevan, Armenia.
