PARIS — Master perfumer Francis Kurkdjian has been named a Knight of the Legion of Honor, France’s highest national distinction, as part of the country’s 2026 civilian honors list, Le Figaro reported on July 15.
Kurkdjian has a long history with fragrances. At age 26, he created Le Male for Jean Paul Gaultier, one of the world’s top sellers. In 2009 he founded his own fragrance house, Maison Francis Kurdkjian, and released Baccarat in 2013, which has become an astounding success, one of the best selling fragrances globally. He sold the company to the luxury behemoth LVMH in 2017. He is currently the creative director of perfume at Christian Dior.
The awards recognize 619 individuals for their contributions across fields including culture, science, healthcare, business, sports and public service. The decrees were signed by President Emmanuel Macron.
