Aznavour visited the cultural capital of Artsakh, Shushi, and went to the northern part of Karabakh, particularly the Mardakert district, where he saw the beautiful Gandzasar monastery and Tsovin Qar (Sea Stone) resort complex.

Before his departure from Artsakh Aznavour expressed hope that he would come again, which, unfortunately, did not happen.

On October 2, 2018 a liturgy was conducted for Charles Aznavour at St. Hakob Church of Stepanakert. As Artsakhpress reported, the ceremony was attended by Artsakh National Assembly speaker Ashot Ghoulyan, Deputy Minister of Culture Gayane Grigoryan, members of the Artsakh Writers’ Union and Social Youth Organization, students, lecturers, schoolchildren and others.

Later the participants visited the French park, where Charles Aznavour’s image was placed. Artsakhtsi people lit candles here and put flowers.
“The star of our world epoch, who made an important contribution to the development of world culture, left this life,” David Babayan, the presidential spokesperson said to Arminfo news agency. The funeral day of Charles Aznavour will be declared a day of mourning in Artsakh.
The accompanying video was prepared by the Public TV Company of Artsakh. For an overview of Aznavour’s life see the Mirror‘s accompanying article here.
