BERDZOR, Karabagh — The Tekeyan Cultural Association’s Sponsor A Teacher program started its distribution of funds for Vahan Tekeyan School teachers in Berdzor.
Aram Arkun, the associate editor of the Armenian Mirror-Spectator, during his visit to Armenia and Karabagh, joined the director of Tekeyan Cultural Association (TCA) of Armenia, Gayane Mouradian, to visit the school, meet with the teachers and distribute the stipends to the teachers and workers.
TCA’s Sponsor a Teacher program has been providing extra funds to teachers and school staffs of several Vahan Tekeyan schools in Armenia and Karabagh for the past 11 years. The aim of the program is encourage teachers to stay in the homeland and continue their dedicated work of educating the younger generations. Since its inception, the TCA has distributed $395,000 to teachers and workers who educate 2,972 students every year in five Vahan Tekeyan Schools in Armenia and Karabagh.
Arkun was accompanied on this trip by writer Peter Sourian of New York, President of Writers Union of Armenia Levon Ananian and Tekeyan Award winner, writer Artem Haroutunian.
Ananian was astonished when he was told by Mouradian that this is the 11th distribution of TCA in Armenia and Karabagh. In his speech he applauded the work of the Armenian teachers and promised that through the “Books For The Schools” program of the Writers Union he would soon send many books to Karabagh school as well as a bust of Vahan Tekeyan.
Arkun emphasized the dedicated work of the teachers, thanked them for their unselfish work and patient attitude.
