Christofias mentioned in his written address to the participants of the event, organized at the Surb Astvatsatsin (Holy Virgin Mary) Armenian Church in Nicosia, that the Republic of Cyprus will always support the cause of the Armenians.
In the address Christofias stressed the fact that the Republic of Cyprus is the first European country, which recognized the Armenian Genocide in 1982. Karayan stated at the event of Surb Astvatsatsin Church that “Turkey must face the consequences of the crime it committed.”

He added that “the recent so-called Armenian-Turkish peace initiatives were not trustworthy and have ulterior motives.”
