NEW BRITAIN, Conn. — This past spring the Women’s Guild of the Armenian Church of the Holy Resurrection conducted a drive to collect jeans and other pants for distribution to the needy. The drive was conducted by Armen Michalak, chairperson of the guild working with Rose Maljanian, chairperson of the drive. Through the generosity of the local community a large and successful collection was achieved.

Approximately one third of the items were shipped to “Mer Doon” (Our Home) in Echmiadzin by Julie Ashekian, their sponsor, where orphan girls over the age of 18 are trained and educated to move on to live independently.
The balance of the collection was packed into two large suitcases, which Rose Maljanian took to Armenia in late July on a family trip. The suitcases were delivered by Rose, her daughter Brianna, niece Ani Kerr and father-in-law John Maljanian Sr. They were graciously accepted by Dickran Zoulikian, program administrator of the Eastern Diocese sponsored CASP (Children of Armenia Sponsorship Program) at his office at the Ararat Diocese in Yerevan, which financially supports Armenian orphans through American donations.
The organizers thank all who supported.
